France is a Feast: The Photographic Journey of Paul and Julia Child

Presented by the Napa Valley Museum Yountville

“People who love to eat are always the best people.”
—Julia Child

Julia Child was the grande dame of cooking in America, bringing the joy of food into millions of homes through her books and TV shows. Now, YOU can get a rare glimpse into Julia’s life in France through the personal photographs taken by her husband, Paul Child.

It’s only fitting that the exhibit is on display at The CIA at Copia, an immersive foodie wonderland in downtown Napa! France is a Feast will remain at Copia until September 2019.

About the Exhibit:
Based on the acclaimed world-premiere exhibition from the Napa Valley Museum Yountville, this touring exhibit debuts with new text from Paul Child’s great-nephew, and Julia’s co-author, Alex Prud’homme, and is sponsored in part by Oceania Cruises.

Featuring Paul’s intimate and compelling photographs, France is a Feast documents how Julia Child first discovered French cooking and the French way of life. Paul and Julia moved to Paris in 1948 where he was cultural attaché for the U.S. Information Service. Their wanderings through Paris and the French countryside, frequently photographed by Paul, would help lead Julia to her brilliant and celebrated career as a chef, TV personality, and author. As she recalled: “Paris was wonderfully walkable, and it was a natural subject for Paul.”

Did you know? Long a valued friend and supporter of the CIA, Julia Child helped fund the original Copia when it opened in 2001, and the facility’s first restaurant was named Julia’s Kitchen.
